Bijoux Gives Back

For a while, I’ve been wanting Bijoux to be a part of something bigger. If you haven’t heard, we donate $1 from every order to a charitable organization. We will rotate these quarterly, so there will be four charities per year. The program will begin on July 1st, 2020.

We spent a lot of time researching organizations over the past two weeks, and we realized that we had one in our own backyard. Many of you may know that Greensboro NC played a huge role during the Civil Rights Movement. Four young black men staged the first sit-in in Greensboro in 1960, at the counter of Woolworth’s restaurant after being denied service. The sit in movement soon spread to college towns throughout the south. Their actions made an immediate and lasting impact, forcing Woolworths and other establishments to change their segregation policies.
About two weeks ago, the International Civil Rights Museum, located in downtown Greensboro, was vandalized overnight along with other businesses during peaceful protests for Black Lives Matter. This museum is devoted to teaching about the international struggle for civil and human rights. Now more than ever, it’s important to continue the fight for justice and equality that began at this historic location. We are honored to choose the Greensboro Civil Rights Museum as our first quarterly philanthropic endeavor.
